Default [Leaf Chuunin] - Saitsuki Yori

Name: Saitsuki Yori
Age: 14
Height: 5'4"

Character Type: Shinobi

Country/Village: Hi no Kuni, Konohakure no Sato
Rank: Chuunin
Division: Omoi

Appearance: Yori’s a growing kid with long, awkward limbs, his features too sharp for a real child but still too soft to be considered an adult’s, or even a teenager’s. While he might be growing he’s still small, with narrow shoulders and a slim waist. He’s built lean instead of broad, quick instead of strong, and he moves with the sure feet of a talented acrobat. There are scars. None are terribly obvious but all with a story to tell. He’s had an eventful career.

His hair is true black, cut just above his bangs and just below his ears but otherwise left unkempt, if clean.

Still, while his training has kept him more than fit, it isn’t hard to mistake Yori for an ordinary twelve year old. Since he left him he generally wears ordinary street clothes, with a preference for shorts and short-sleeved shirts. On missions he wears jackets or longer sleeves to hide his arm guards, always loose.

There are daggers hidden in each sleeve, behind each shoulder blade, with explosive tags, more daggers and other tools concealed underneath his shirt. He wears two extra layers under that; a chain shirt to keep him safe, and another beneath that to keep the metal from chafing. The exact details vary for each assignment. He almost never wears his headband, though he usually keeps it somewhere on his person.

Personality: Like many kids his age, Yori is caught in a crisis of identity, torn between who he was raised to be, who he wants to be and what the world has planned. He’s arrogant, but in the almost desperate way that people can be when they have nothing to hold onto but their ego.

Though he’s spent a lot of time in Konoha, the street rat still hasn’t quite been pushed out of Yori all the way. He can be prudent and incredibly practical, but beneath that is a sense of insecurity, a little voice that still asks him whether he belongs. Yori strives to prove himself so he can move past that, but so far his most vocal critic has been inside him.

In that way Yori is still desperate to please. He’s an imitator of sorts, a child who tries to wear other’s faces, other’s personalities, putting on a show of replicating what he sees and hoping the process sticks. Intellectually he recognizes his own competence, but what makes him so vocal about it is that emotional whisper that doesn’t believe the logic. So he keeps himself busy by focusing his attention on a single goal and not giving himself time to wonder.

Nindo; "Way of the Ninja": “I don't know anymore."

Primary Archetype: Firebrand
Archetypes: Taijutsu SpecialistVirtuoso
Combo Special: Once per thread, the user can increase her lowest Physical base stat by her Power stat for two posts (bonuses to that stat are not added on top of the activated Combo Special).
Description: The title of Firebrand is a high praise to those who practice Taijutsu. They are experts in the mechanics of physical combat, which enables them to improvise nigh impossible moves - thought to be beyond their capabilities - to make up for their trained style's flaws. They are tenacious and hard to keep down; just when it looks like one is beat, she gets back up with explosive energy to continue the fight.

Toutetsu Yori was born in silence. His mother a mute prostitute without any other way to live and a father one of her countless customers. While thankfully free from his mother’s fate, Yori had to work to live. So he grew up in the same house, working as a servant in exchange for food, lodging, and minimal education in Kanji. Like many, he was far from content with the situation. A bright boy even as a servant, Yori saw and comprehended those that walked in and out of their Lord’s house and envied them for their lives. Beings that worked for their own betterment, while he was trapped here; working constantly to bring someone he'd never seen comfort.

After living in these conditions, you might think that Yori hated his mother for keeping him, or birthing him in the first place. This is not so. Yori’s mother attended to him in her own special way; slipping him bits of food and the occasional smile, somehow to his infantile mind these casual things were precious. These two held each other dearly without ever actually doing so. Whenever he was upset, no matter how well he hid it, she knew instantly and went to comfort him.

And so, things continued as thus until one day, the six year old’s life changed in an unexpected way.

“Excuse me.”

A boy, just barely scraping four feet, looked up to see the man addressing him. There is no way one word can adequately describe a person, but the first that came to mind was ‘clean.’ His lengthy white hair was spotless and flowed gracefully down and around his neck. The man lowered himself, as if to take a closer look at Yori, or perhaps bring him down to his eye level. Whatever it was, even a child could see that there was something odd about this man. His gaze was not oppressive, not restricting, but an analytic stare that measured you; your height, your weight, your size, and your soul all on a nice, tidy little scale.

“You’re Toutetsu Yori, right?” He spoke plainly, with the kindness adults use when addressing children.

He nodded dumbly, wondering at exactly why this strange man would approach him at all. People came in and out often, many of them to see Yori’s own mother, but this person was of a different caliber. He was one of the great men who talked with the Masters in a meeting room; none of which ever addressed a servant.

Yori had no time to question this, because the man spoke again. “I think I’ve seen you a few times before?” An evasive smile settled itself of a few moments as his eyes passed through Yori. They saw not the child in front of him, or even the pine walls beyond that, but into a realm none could guess at, that of a not so distant past. This brief period of inattention vanished just as quickly as it appeared, leaving Yori to question whether it had happened at all. “But you probably don’t remember. I’m Saitsuki Haburi, from Konoha. Toutetsu Yori, you will come and stay in my house while learning the Shinobi Arts.”

The boy stood for a second, regarding the man no longer with curiosity but with amazement, forgetting entirely the ever needed to address this person with politeness and courtesy. Too young to doubt him, and too old to believe him, Yori stood dumbfounded as his mind struggled to put these overflowing emotions of his into words. In this time, he could manage only the most important one, “M-mother-”

“-Has consented to it as well. We may leave whenever you like.” The man spoke easily, reaching a hand up and resting it casually on Yori’s head while he sorted everything out. Who else but her would have seen this? Who else but that wonderful mother of his could see a dream that Yori would never dare to think in his waking hours? “Hey now, don’t cry. You won’t even make it past the academy with that.” Haburi joked as Yori quickly wiped away a few tears that had gathered on his cheeks.

“I-I’m fine…”

“Then let’s go.”
Did I say that Haburi was clean? I’m sorry, but that word is not adequate. Everything about the man and anything related to him is simply pristine, but not in the way you would expect the wealthy to be. Most nobles overflow with lavish and gaudy decorations, but the Saitsuki household was ordered. No great halls existed, no larger than life objects, but instead shrewd detail in even the smallest thing; Haburi was a man who ruled all under his roof like a king.

And Toosu, his daughter, was the princess.

She was kind enough in front of Haburi; polite, courteous, though not quite sisterly. Toosu seemed indifferent at these times, glancing at Yori for only a few moments at a time, as if looking at him for too long would somehow infect her with something. This continued even after Yori was properly educated; Toosu refused to see that he was dressed and treated as she was, treating him like utter filth whenever they were alone, constantly flaunting the meager skills she’d developed, made all the more bitter by Yori knowing that he couldn’t do what she did. All this occurred under the watchful eyes of their Father.

The appeal of snow is, to some, the way it smothers the world. The most active and rabid animals settle and shiver in the snow, bringing about absolute silence. It was something you could feel through even the thick walls and reinforced windows of the Saitsuki household.

Just a year after his arrival, Yori was well settled here, and was very used to the soft bed he now slept in. What kept him up tonight was not the unfamiliar, but rather the events of the past few days. As of now, both he and Toosu were enrolled in the Shinobi academy and would be spending their first day there when the sun rose. That, however, was no the only thing weighing on his mind. This thing would remain etched into his mind long after he started the academy, and even now as be becomes a genin.

”So Yori, I trust you enjoy yourself here?” Haburi said suddenly, addressing but not turning toward the boy.

The boy was puzzled by his sudden question; he had heard it from him only once before, as he arrived and settled. “Of course Tousan.” The child said with an ease that would surprised a younger Yori. Then again, why be formal? After all, he had adopted Yori in all senses of the word.

“Yes, why wouldn’t you?” Haburi smiled, gazing calmly out the window, as if watching the snow. “It’s been about a year, hasn’t it? You’ve learned the basics, and trained to be what you’ve always dreamed of. Who wouldn’t?” Haburi shifting his body and turning in his seat to look at his ‘Son’ in the eye, and it seemed as though the years bonding they had dissolved completely; his body and soul pierced again by two eyes that never missed a thing. "It would be such a shame for it to end."

Yori could only gape, eyes widening as he wrapped his mind around what the man he had long considered ‘Father’ said. He waited for him to take it back, to say ‘I’m sorry,’ but he didn’t. He simply looked that small enigmatic grin just barely traceable on his face. It felt like he should say something, ask a question, but his body wasn’t moving; all he did was stare.

“You’ve seen your sister, correct?” He inquired, turning back toward the window “I must say that she’s learned quite a bit in the last year. What do you have to show for it?”

“I-I can…” Yori stuttered, quickly thinking over everything he could do. Genjutsu, he knew simple genjutsu and could recite their meaning. He could do a back-flip, front-flip, any kind of flip asked for. He could channel chakra through his hands, a step toward learning Ninjutsu as a whole.

And so could Toosu.

“Nothing then?” He said, only the smallest trace of disappointment audible in his voice. “I’m sure that will change then, won’t it?”

Yori nodded dumbly, was this really the man who had taken him in? The smiling, freindly man who had picked him up on that day oh so long ago? He was bewildered, puzzled, and scared; he had no idea what to call him anymore. Evil, that certainly fit him now, but what about before? All those kind actions of his would hold no purpose.

What was he thinking?

But he couldn't worry about stuff like that now; he had things to do. Important things.
From ’Sibling Love Or Just Hate?’ to ‘Chuunin Exams: Round Three.

Yori and Toosu were both assigned to a team under a certain Sanada Seijirou, a member of a secretive bloodline with control over the very way their bodies operated and complete asshole. The last genin, Nara Hitomi, was undoubtedly the centerpiece of the genin. She made herself that center. Yori could only watch in awe and trail behind her.

Nearly immediately, they were sent to the Chuunin exams. Most of the other teams were no more experience than they were, but the strongest opposition presented itself in the form of another, far more experienced Leaf team. After a close fight with a Grass genin, he moved on to his final fight. Much to his horror, he was put up against the ace of the strongest Leaf team, Naota.

He fought well and hard against the star of the show. Yori played the underdog, hiding in brushes, using diversions, absolutely certain that the other genin was going to bake him alive at any moment. In the end Yori managed to get up close to the ninjutsu powerhouse and wear him down.

Somehow, the match ended in a draw.

After the ending, he realized that he and Hitomi had been chosen for promotion . . . when someone realized that Seijirou had fudged the papers that had got them into the exams in the first place. They were waved away. He had not liked his sensei before, but only then did his rage rise above simmering and turn white hot. His feud with Toosu had been almost out of habit. Yori took the misfile that led to their disqualification as outright treason.

From ‘A Recess in the Shade’ to ‘Open Your Eyes.

Yori spent more time with Hitomi, partially because she was his teammate, partially because her force of personality called to him like a firefly to lamplight. It was bright, so terribly bright. He wanted to shine as she did.

She befriended him, or at least did not mind him. As she realized the way he lived, constantly trying to please his father, she started asking him why? Why work so hard to please him? If it was anyone else Yori might have started yelling, but he could only give excuses, and what flimsy excuses they were. They made him look at himself in a new light. He was sucking up to a man who wasn’t his father, who pitted him against his blood daughter, let them fight and rewarded the winner.

He didn’t do much more than worry about it. Time went on, and he spent more and more time on his own, training, training and doing missions with Team Four. Haburi was in a precarious position. Yori did not want to destroy the life he’d been given. But he did no longer trust the man who he had learned to call Father.

From ‘Risky Infiltration’ to ‘Aftermath

Team Four’s genin were sent on a mission, to be sold as slaves to a dealer Konoha wanted tracked and learn about his business. What seemed like an ordinary mission at first sight became the most traumatic experience of Yori’s young life.

They were all beaten ruthlessly, nearly starved and publicly humiliated alongside the other ‘slaves.’ At night they snuck from their room and stalked the darkness, searching for clues as to the nature of the place. But by day they were tired, and that got them in more trouble.

Toosu couldn’t take the pressure. She took her rage out on the nearest slaver and was beaten so bad Yori thought she was dead, or at least useless. He and Hitomi were forced to clean up her blood together.

The next day Hitomi popped a false death pill to escape the camp and report to Seijirou. More than one child falling over dead might have made them suspicious, so Yori stayed behind, alone.

Nearly a week passed before he was finally rescued. It was like an eternity.

Seijirou took matters into his own hands, taking down slave camp itself instead of retreating, as was planned. He had an ally; a man who looked very much like Seijirou who carried a spear. It seemed to be his missing-nin brother.

Hitomi and he tried to tell everyone. No one believed. Or, even if they did, they did not act on the knowledge.

From ‘Bitter Pill' to ‘Child Labor.

After they saved Toosu and brought her back to Konoha during the escape, Yori never saw hide or hair of her. Haburi brushed off the question, smiled and told him not to worry. At first, he was happy. There was no one to compete with! No one to fight! Then it began to dawn on Yori that the man’s bloodborn daughter was nowhere to be found. No one wanted to tell him, or they simply did not know.

He decided that if he could just throw a child away like that, there was no reason for him to stick around. He packed his bags with Hitomi’s help and moved into an apartment.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but with the Taijutsu specialist archetype being your primary you have to take Mental as your secondary instead of Chakra as it is now.

Don of the Sanada Family
Leaf & Grass Lieutenant

Let's end the speculation, I'm talkin' to all of y'all
Males shouldn't be jealous, that's a female trait
What, you mad ‘cause you push dimes and he sell weight?
Y'all don't know my expenses, I gotta buy bigger plates
Hehehe, and more baggies — why you all aggie?
Homie, respect the game, that should be it
What you eat don't make me shit; where's the love?

Well...How did that happen? In any case, he's salvaged. Just keep in mind that I will not be using my fifth freebie.

Poor kaen!

Re-half'd, because you feel bad enough right now that I don't have the heart to make fun of you.

Toosu's still cooler. Even if Yori's written better.

Well, the descriptions are fine. Very fine, actually. I like how they contain some "excess" info, especially the Physical.

The stats are laid out nicely, and with colour coding too! It is not exactly easy to distinguish between black and dark blue though. Nevertheless, they are correct. Same with items.

Now, I might be missing something here... again but Genin get 5 Freebies and 2 Academys, and no matter how many times I count, I only see up to '[F4]'. That means you get to choose one more technique or I'm not doing it right. Other than that, this character is complete.

Edit: Kaito sed ur stupid, Kaen lolo its k
