I clicked the link, and the pop up window said the site was unavailable. Is it down now or something?

If all else fails, there is mibbit.

1) Go to mibbit.com
2) On the left, select "Starting chatting now"
3) On the dropdown where it says "Mibbit [webirc]", scroll down and select "IRCHighway" instead.
4) Put in a nick
5) Type in #enginochat
6) Click "Go"

etc.

A quick reminder for those unfamiliar with how IRC works:

Our channel is moderated. What does that mean? It means that people need to be at least voiced (have the little + sign in front of their names) to be able to send messages in the main chat.

How do you get voiced? A channel operator needs to add you to the vop list, but your nick has to be registered for it to work.

Now, if you're a new user and someone hasn't added you yet/you haven't registered yet, don't keep joining and leaving the channel. Just stick to it until someone isn't AFK and is able to manually voice you.

A little patience goes a long way :)

Uh....I don't mean to revive/spam/otherwise molest an announcement thread, but why not use AIM?

We used to, many moons ago. However, the problem with AIM is that it can't be moderated. So, you get bots or griefers, and you just have to suck it up. In IRC, those elements can simply be removed. Plus, IRC is generally more stable, as AIM chat was prone to a lot of net splits and other irritatants.

tl;dr - We tried it, IRC is the better option.
