Default Frenzy

The rapture! The joy!

A mission with, oh my god, oh my god, can you believe it?

A chuunin!

These illustrious individuals held immense sway in the young girl’s imagination. Her brother was one, even! Ringo would spend many a night thinking about her teachers (most of them chuunin in rank) and the adventures they must have gone on with they amazing powers. Some could make water. Some could make mist! One weird dude used puppets, but Ringo tried not to think about him because puppets were really freaky.

Above all else, chuunin held power. Such a stark contrast from the frail genin she routinely berated and looked down upon. And to serve under one! Oh my god oh my god, no, no calm down. She couldn’t let her own excitement kill the hype.

Still, whenever she looked her way, she stood just a little bit straighter. All day she’d been responding with nothing but ‘yes Ma'am!’ and ‘no Ma'am!’ and one time with ‘can do, Sir!’ out of impulse, since she wasn't used to working with higher ranking kunoichi at all. The words tasted sweet on her tongue. Ringo couldn’t wait for her leader to give some really, really hard order that would put the her to the test.

Currently all Ringo did was keep tying knots around a giant marlin a fisherman had caught. Not the most thrilling work in the world.

“Yeah, so you can see the problem.”
The deeply tanned fisherman, somewhere in his mid twenties, gestured out to sea. The shinobi and their employer sat on a sandbank, not even big enough to be called an island.“Kirigakure is a few hours that way, and, hoo boy, look at that sucker.” The fisherman regarded his catch again with awe. Its size dwarfed his tiny fishing boat and must have weighed an easy ton. It still bled into the water, fresh harpoon wounds present on its firm blue scales. “Took three days to catch. The last stretch is the hardest, though. So many sharks!” He shook his head.

“So, can you do it?”
The fisherman turned to address Xing, the shinobi he’d hired to help with his task. “I’ll handle the transport, you just gotta keep those awful animals away from my prize.”

"So, can you do it? I’ll handle the transport, you just gotta keep those awful animals away from my prize.”

Xing took a look at the genin she'd been assigned and chuckled. She was energetic and quite frankly, cute. She looked very excited to be here and for the agent to deny this tidious task would be a crime. She wasn't going to break the poor girls heart.

"Of course we can do it. This is child's play. I've delt with, bigger problems"

Xing had winked at the relatively young sailor causing him to rub his head in embarrassment and joined along in the laughter. Xing had begun to remember the presence of the eleven year old genin and was also embarrassed for making such a statement in front of a child... Would she even understand?

"Thank you, I'm sure we're in good hands. I'll go and run the usual check up on the ship and signal for you guys when we're good to go"

She nodded turned to her assigned partner and looked at her up and down, analyzing her. She didn't look very much like a lethal fighter, which makes her all the more impressive. A kunoichi is at her ultimate potential when she looks the part of a model. Her opponents won't expect a trained assassin below the surface a cute girl. In this aspect, the genin had impressed Xing. She couldn't help but get to know such an adorable lethal force.

"I heard great things about you, I hope you aren't afraid of sharks cutie."

Hearing her leader’s voice caused Ringo to drop several knotted ropes into the water at once and perform a rigid salute. “No Ma’am! I’ll swim in the water with the fish if you want me too!” Each word snapped out with precision and an eagerness to please. Of course sharks completely terrified Ringo. Have you seen the jaws on some of those suckers? Holy crap, they could probably swallow a child her size in one bite!

But! A solider could not allow fears to hold them back from their duty! Ringo persisted in her salute and let not a trace of that primal fear into her voice or actions. She was a shinobi! Even if a shark tore her in half, it wouldn’t take away her pride!

A loud clucking came from near where the fisherman prepared to shove off, followed by sailor appropriate cursing. Ringo’s expression melted from excited to upset. Her voice cracked out. "ICHI!"

The squawking grew louder and the air filled with the soft flapping of wings. A white-and-black chicken took flight and landed right on the girl’s shoulder. Sticky rice grains coated its beak.

“My lunch!”

Ringo scowled and grabbed the bird by the neck, hurling it into the ocean. "Bad! BAD!" The chicken cried out in protest, but easily took to the air before hitting the water. For a rooster it flied with an unnatural grace. Ringo gave her animal a death glare as it flew out of reach and back towards the sailboat. “Sorry, Ma’am! Ichi is still in training! If he misbehaves, please hold me responsible!”

“My lunch...”
The fisherman sighed. “Okay, I guess we can leave now. Jeez.” He looked at Xing and hesitated. “Anything else before we leave shore? You both can sit on the sides, I’ll be steering.”

Xing tried but couldn't contain her laughter. Ringo had made herself out to be quite the character. Though it was strange to have a chicken as a partner in crime Xing didn't mind. It made the little genin even more of a hidden threat. Nobody would expect a cute little girl and her chicken to brutal murder their team.

"Kurusu Ringo." Xing worded out playfully with a warm smile. "Cute. You and you're chicken are partners, I well expect you two to work on the same level."

Before Xing could say anything else the captain had called out for the two.

"Anything else before we leave shore? You both can sit on the sides, I’ll be steering.”

"Alright handsome! Don't worry about us, we'll get comfortable, I assure you." Xing replied suggestively. "Come on kiddo. We got some fish to fry."

The duo had gone to board the ship. This will be an interesting ride. The two kunoichi stood on the sides of the ship and it set off. The fresh sea breeze giving Xing tingles. It's been awhile...

It was now that they had free time that Xing was reminded of the conversation she begun on shore that she didn't get to finish.

"Tell me, what's the story with you and that chicken?"

Goodbye, goodbye! The sun kissed shores of that desolate strip of sand disappeared as Team Xing took off. Officially this wasn’t a team, and Ringo still wasn't on a team, and it looked like it might be a long time before she ever even saw a team, but you couldn’t sit around and wait for teams to happen! You had to go out and make them happen!

The sail caught the wind with a marvelous unfurling noise and they skipped across the waves. Even the giant fish tied to the boat only slowed them by a fraction. Ichi poofed up like a balloon as the air caught his feathers, though he refused to get out of the wind or do anything but stare down the horizon as they glided. Ringo couldn’t imagine a shark ever out-pacing them! Which was a disappointment. Without any danger, she would never get a chance to prove herself.

Well, there was always tomorrow! No need to rush things. Slow and steady wins the race. Unless you were a boat hauling an enormous fish, then you needed to go super fast. So, crappy metaphor.

Captain Xing spoke and Ringo sat up, gripping the side of the small vessel to steady herself. “No story to speak of, Ma’am! I raise poultry, Ichi showed the most promise in combat!” Hearing his name caused the chicken’s head to cock to the side and put one yellow eyeball on his master. He didn’t stir from his spot despite the attention. “Went through about a dozen failures before finding him. I have high hopes for his children!”

It would be rude for an underling to question her boss, and so Ringo just stared up at the chuunin with her wide eyes. Her commander looked very young, and fairly short for a shinobi. Ringo tended to see shinobi as a bunch of six foot tall muscle bound monsters. Not to say a lack of height meant Shirantan Xing was inferior!

“What about you, Miss?”
The fisherman couldn’t turn and face the shinobi as he was busy with the sails, but his voice carried over the breeze well enough. “You got a story to share?”

Ringo was impressively cute and Itchi seemed like a fitting partner. What a shame that the sailor had made such a careless question.

The captain's question stung Xing like a manta ray. She stared out at the sea, noting the interesting way the waves were moving. Maybe they weren't moving at all, but Xing wanted something to distract her. Her father's face was what was in the water's reflection rather than hers.

Xing laughed and made her way to captain, embracing him from behind. Nothing too inappropriate. She brought herself to his ear and lightly spoke into his ear. She had went from her playful lax nature to a much more serious and somewhat frightening yet enticing persona. Her voice had been sent dancing through the young sailor's ear and down his spine, spreading a tingly sensation all over the man's body.

"Me? I've drifted along here and there but there's nothing note worthy in my past. Let this be the last time you ask such a prestigious shinobi such as I, such a question. We all tend to see such horrible things happen in our lifetimes. Sometimes we are the ones who cause said tragedy. So don't stick your nose anywhere it doesn't belong. Okay?"

She then pulled out and reverted back to her own self again and flashed a smile. Putting her hands behind her back, she had walked back to Ringo and again leaned over the railing and stared out into the sea. Her mood had been ruined and she was wishing for a immense shark to appear and attack the ship to give herself something to occupy her. Of course, she didn't show this. She had kept her smile and her atmosphere still remained cheerful to those that allowed themselves to be fooled.

The sailor was clearly shaken by what the lady had told him and felt very confused. This was because he had felt both aroused yet frightened, two emotions he'd never thought would go well together. He was also at a loss when he thought of what was it he had done wrong. Sailors always regale each other with tales of their voyages and experiences. Women really are complex. He had instead focused on the little girl ninja who seemed much more willing to socialize.

"Uh.. is this your first time doing this kind of escort mission young lady?"

Ringo watched with amazement as her leader bravely stood up and moved across the moving boat without an ounce of hesitation. Wow, that’s a chuunin for you! Ringo could barely hold on as the ocean churned and rocked and the wind kicked and swirled. Shirantan Xing just strolled across the turmoil like it was a walk in the park!

The exchange of words between the two adults sounded secretive and enticing, but Ringo ignored it and let the words fall on deaf ears. Adults did their adult thing, no business of a child to eavesdrop. She tried to stand instead, mimicking Xing’s graceful movements. Halfway out of a squat a small swell tossed her back on her butt. That earned the water a scowl. The ocean did not seem to mind the genin’s negative vibes all that much.

Her intense hatred of the sea broke as the sailor, voice not quite as energetic as before, decided to throw a question her way instead. Ringo’s attention shifted and her back straightened. The fisherman might be below her rank, but he was her employer, and you always showed your employer respect! “I only graduated this month, Sir! But rest assured, the skill of Ms. Shirantan Xing is more than enough to complete this mission should I fail!”

Ringo didn’t actually know if that was true, but hey, gotta pay tribute to your seniors, right?

“Oh, boy. Well.”
The sailor’s voice changed again, now tinged with a bit of worry. “I guess we’ll see that in a minute, won’t we? Heads up, team, north-north-west.” Ringo glanced up at the sky to figure out her cardinal directions, then jerked her head in the wrong direction. Oh, no. West was the other way. She turned around in her seat and expected to see a menacing dorsal fin of thirty foot long Great White.

All she saw was the white, foamy wake of the ship as it passed through the water. What the heck! She opened her mouth to complain but then closed it. Good thing, too. In the following seconds she noticed several dark shapes beneath the water closing in from the back of the boat. She counted three, no, four, five of them? Sharks didn’t travel in packs, did they?

Oh my god, they were fast! They’d be on the boat in less than a minute. Well, on the fish they towed alongside it anyway. Ringo turned to her leader with an expression of half fear, half devotion. Her words carried that same edge of worry mixed with eagerness. “Orders, Ma’am?”

Orders, Ma’am?”

Speak of the devil..

Xing's eyes darted from shark to shark. They weren't moving in a formation so it couldn't have been an attack by people, unless they were slobs which is so unattractive. Xing reached for her Chui and ran for the bow of the ship.

"Simple. Keep those pinheads in the water and off of this ship, I'm eager to see what you and that chicken can do!" Xing yelled as she got in position on the head of the ship. "Sharks... Still doesn't beat my worst dates."

Xing spotted a shark at the head of the gam of sharks. It leaped out the water and aimed right for the head of the ship. The agent picked up on two irregularities. First off, sharks rarely travel in pairs, much less in groups. Also, this shark is aiming for the ship not the fish, meaning the shark is attacking with the intent to do damage rather than to feed... Strange.

No time to think now though, Xing spun around and flung one end of her meteors with a erotic moan.

Your turn
She thought, with Ringo in mind.
