Sosu rushed down the hill in the quarry following Motonubu as closely as he possibly could. There was no doubt that he would be able to keep up and Daiki was also very skilled as well. however, he had made it so that Daiki was more of a support and was trailing behind Sosu, who was already trailing behind his partner Motonubu. As they continued down the path Sosu began to try and think of a different name to call his partner. It was starting to annoy him how long his friends name was and it would be a perfect opportunity before they got into a tassle that he figured out what he would call his partner.

Names started to rush through his head but nothing seemed to stick out, however, that would have to wait as sand and rubble started to collapse on the group of chuunin and dog. Luckily Sosu was far enough away to dodge the rubble that had trapped Motonubu and he seemed alright. Then another landslide went towards Sosu and all he could do was watch as it started to crumble upon him. Sand and rubble filled his body with such mass that he had no choice but to escape. In a puff of smoke Sosu dodged a multitude of rocks and was safely next to his partner. Whoever had done the attack was smart to get them off their guard but Sosu was no chicken when it came to a fight.

"Get the hell out here! Are you afraid Kouken? I mean I did kick you ass and all, but to grovel to this much fear and pain? There was something that you were missing my friend. So how about you come out!" Sosu stated and almost instantaneously Kouken appeared.

"What the fuck dude!" A man's voice rang out in the quarry as to hate on the fact that Kouken had shown his face.

"Nah, we are killing these dudes straight up." Kouken responded. Out of the shadow a man showed his face. It was now clear where the line was drawn as Kouken rushed Sosu and the mysterious man rushed Motonubu

With no time to dodge Motonubu wrapped himself in his heavy cloak. The earth piled atop him in a flood and within moments he found his body immobilized by the enormity of material now surrounding him. At once the landslide knocked the chuunin off his feet.

His vision went dark. His limbs stiffened as loose earth compacted around him. The chunkier pieces of rock pelted and slammed into him as well. While his armor kept the debris from outright crushing his torso or limbs, the impacts reawakened the tender bruises from his earlier fight that night. And naturally, he couldn’t breathe without inhaling a mouthful of sand.

I give myself a minute, two minutes maximum before suffocating.

“Kouken, you damn bastard!”
A shorter, stockier looking man shouted from afar while tossing a rock up and down in one hand. “Let me finish them off from here!” The man’s partner paid him no mind as Kouken, revitalized by the Furious Four’s caretaking, saw fit to fight the man he saw as his rival rather than engage in any strategy.

That was all well and good, but for the projectile specialist known as Souseki, that made his job a bit harder!

He could hurl these rocks hard enough to bring down a mountainside, but doing so while his buddy was fighting the target meant possibly harming them both. Clucking his tongue he pocketed the rock and pulled a javelin from a quiver on his back. He’d just impale the dog, then.

His arm swung back as he prepared to throw. The mountain of dirt sitting atop the first shinobi exploded before he could release. From the cloud emerged Sawamatsu no Motonubu, coughing up a storm. Oh, well. New target! Souseki adjusted his aim and threw one, two, four spears at the shinobi while he appeared distracted..

The chuunin noticed immediately and squinted with disgust. “Tch!” Motonubu threw out an effortless palm just as he had while buried under the rubble. An immense powerful force shot out from his hand and whirled like a dervish through the air, knocking all four projectiles out of their trajectories.

Souseki cursed again. Looks like he’d need to come up with a different tactic. No biggie! He stood clear on the other side of the quarry, how would those shinobi ever reach him anyway?

Fists went flying as the two shinobi jumped over rocks and debris; each parrying the other and there was no doubt that Kouken was now a little more aware of his situation and when you put a wild animal into a corner; you better expect that they will try anything to survive. Now Sosu had to deal with the wild Kouken; he just hoped that it was enough. Leaping and jumping proved a bad idea as Sosu slipped on one of the rock faces. Landing squarely on his back he had no time to dodge the fist of Kouken. Landing square in his gut Sosu winced in pain as the rock below him broke from the pressure.

Kouken was going for the kill shot; his fist aimed straight for the head of the confused Sosu, however, luck would be on his side as Daiki slammed his body into the assailant and subsequently shifting Kouken's body off of Sosu.

"Sosu, get up you wimp; I thought you said you defeated this man before? He seems to be taking you down. If I wasn't here; who knows what could have happened." Daiki stated as he propelled his spears forwards towards a charging Kouken.

After the attack Kouken had rolled a few feet away; rolling into a running stance and charging back at the summon and the summoner. The spears all missed and they stayed lodged within the sand. Kouken with great fury erupted into a chakra enhanced state for only a moment to take an upper hand against Daiki. Instinctively Daiki raised another spear to block the attack and the fist of Kouken cracked it in two and sent Daiki out of the area. Daiki stopped rolling a little more then ten feet away before realizing that Kouken would in fact be a little bit of trouble.

Souseki, one of the founding members of the Furious Five (Four), already knew everything about these two men. Kouken told the group about the first, the young teenager known as Len Sosu. The older man accompanying him went by the name Sawamatsu no Motonubu. Their partner disabled Motonubu during their assault of The Gauntlet, so Souseki never got the chance to see him in action. What he saw so far was not impressive.

So the chuunin could survive Souseki’s Furious Avalanche? Big deal. Deflected his Furious Thunderbolts? Pfft. Souseki grinned and turned his cap backwards while he pulled out a real show-stopper.

The Furious Flier!

With a snap he hurled a propeller shaped projectile through the air. It whistled as it flew. Motonubu took a second to dust himself off then glance at his partner. Then he spat, frowned, and waved another palm towards the projectile. Boy would he be in for a surprise!

The large projectile cut through the chuunin’s compressed air like a razor slicing off a layer of skin. The Furious Flier, a specialized anti-fuuton technique developed by and perfect by one Souseki of the Furious Five (Four)! Too many battles with wind-manipulating shinobi damped Souseki’s spirits, and he always loved watching their expression as his technique shredded their smug attitude as it did their jutsu.

Motonubu couldn’t really get any more upset, so his dour expression remained unchanged. He crossed his arms, prepared to bare the brunt of the attack. His armor would protect him, surely!

And it did! The metal propeller sunk about an inch into his forearm, but the metal sheet surrounding it dulled the worst of the impact.

Did Souseki lose hope?

Of course not!

Because the show was only beginning!

Now came the third act: The Furious Flames!

The shinobi missed the forest for the trees. Rather, in his distracted state, he didn’t see the follow-up projectile Soukei hurled in the shadow of the Furious Flier. Nothing too technical about this one. It was just a simple firebomb.

Motonubu exploded into a column of liquid fire as the container of fuel ignite on impact with the air. The shadowy quarry exploded into an array of red light as the furnace blazed high into the air.

For good measure, Souseki hurled a Furious Flame at Len Sosu and his dog as well. Call it a Furious Flurry of Flames, if you wanted!

As Sosu attempted to sit up from the previous attack he was nearly blindsided by his dog and as he watched him go flying by he noticed that Kouken was in good form. He seemed to becoming more attuned to his skills and that would be a problem for Sosu. Of course he was new, and of course he was weaker when they first met, however, Sosu had nearly lost because of his cocky demeanor. Instead, this time Sosu would make sure that he did everything in his power to defeat the man in front of him.

However, that would have to wait a moment as a fire erupted in the quarry where his partner Motonubu was currently fighting near. It worried Sosu for a moment but as the shadowy figure of his partner left the inferno, Sosu knew that he was all right. However, Sosu would have to contend with his own problem as a similar projectile was lobbed towards him and his dog. Trying to roll out of the way Sosu was met with a fiery blast that sent him flying through the sand even further. His dog followed suit and they both were ejected from their current place and sent flying possible twenty more feet.

The feeling of the fire stayed on the back of Sosu and Daiki seemed to have singed a lot of the hair on his body. However, they were both alive, but they did not seem all too well. As Sosu attempted to stand once again, this time a little slower he did not notice Kouken readying another attack. This one was once again a dive bomb from his fists. Luckily, his guardian deflected the fists of the Furious Five, no Four member.

”This jerk is starting to be a pain.” Daiki stated as he lifted up Sosu.

”Go help Motonubu. NOW!” Sosu stated with a great fire in his eyes. He lifted his sword out of the sheathe and rushed towards Kouken.

Sosu stabbed up against Kouken but was met with a shield of sand that surrounded the man. I was sturdy and strong and Sosu couldn’t get his sword to completely penetrate.

”Whats wrong? Too weak?” Kouken taunted from within the safety of the ball.

However, this only fired him up more as a propulsion of chakra from his elbow drove the sword staright into Kouken’s shoulder.

There could be no mistaking it now, this skirmish sat in Souseki’s sweaty little palm. And at his whim he would cast it into the horizon never to be seen again. The metaphor might be a bit shaky but he’d work on that when converting this incident into a section of his memoir.

“How I Defeated Two Nitwits” sounded like a good working title. His hands dove into his weapon stash to prepare for the final scene.

Motonubu, still engulfed in a tower of flames, looked to no longer be of concern. Kouken wanted to manage Sosu by himself, which meant that the next target needed to be the dog. What a shame the animals were colorblind, they wouldn’t be able to appreciate what came next!

A dozen bundles of long paper cylinders came from Souseki’s bag of goodies, each held in his fingers by a long strings. Fuses, for the uninitiated. He spun each cylinder one a time by the string, releasing them in a specific timing and order for maximum effect. As the string left his finger, it ignited with a snap.

And when the fuse’s life ended, the show reached its climax! The cylinder exploded into a massive display of light, color, and heat, blooming like a lotus in the hot wasteland morning air. First blue, then red, then green. Every new cylinder he released detonated and unfurled into a new color and a different shape. Beautiful. Just beautiful. He could cry, so wondrous the scene he painted was.

It was the Furious Finisher! Patent pending.

And of course for added saftey he hurled the biggest and meanest of the Finisher's into the dwindling column of fire, right at the Motonubu shaped lump that still dwelt within it. Better safe than sorry, they say.

”I HATE YOU! How can you be so danm strong? What kind of person are you? Always getting the best of me!” Kouken stated as a flurry of anger washed over the man’s mannerisms and expressions. However, his blood was also washing over his body. The cut that Sosu had created was deep, too deep to go unnoticed or treated for that matter. It was because of that single attack that Sosu got another win under his belt against the man from his past.

However, as Sosu went for one final swipe he was met with a puff of sand and a disappearing Kouken. Kouken had fled once again and it left Sosu confused and quite annoyed. However, now he was aware of the situation that was currently happening as the tower inferno made the area around the battlefield stifling hot. What made matters even worse was the fact that Daiki had once again been defeated. The pyromaniac created a grand attack, however, as the fire started to engulf Daiki he retreated in a puff of smoke as well.

Sustaining too many injuries could be ad for a normal human, however, the luxury of being a summon was the ability to run and escape. Sosu knew he would get it from the alpha of the Dog House, however, it would be possible to make it up to them if the man was defeated. Jumping through the fire Sosu sustained minimal burn damage but was able to give the surprise of a lifetime towards the projectile specialist who had seemed to keep Motonubu at a far enough space.

As Sosu closed in on the man he spun as if he was a top and sliced the man square in the chest. There was no way that Sosu would allow for the maniacs reign to go one any longer.

Jumping back, the intestines of the man started to spill on the sand, the fire from the bomb roasting his innards.

Huh, that turned unexpectedly lethal in a big hurry. That’s what Souseki, the Furious Flinger (and soon to be Furious Fatality) got for playing favorites with his target. Hell, if he’d gone after Sosu rather than Motonubu, maybe he wouldn’t be staring at the many, many organs he once called ‘internal’.

But the final chapter in his life wouldn’t be ending without a twist! The show must go on until the fat projectile specialist sang. Or in this case, blew up his enemy.

Could it be? Was it true? Oh yes! His arms rose up, an entire belt of hard looking, black grenades rising from his coat. It was time for the Furious Finale! A series of metallic plinks filled the air as his arm rose, the pins from each grenade falling like rain into the blood soaked quarry earth below. Let’s see that smartass little Len Sosu dodge a couple hundred thousand pounds per square inch of explosive force!

With those expert fingers he twirled the belt, using every last bit of strength and hatred to bring it up to speed. He’d show all these thin speedsters what really mattered was precision! Accuracy! Good theatrical naming sense! He let go of the grenades and prepared to enjoy his last moments of life watching the cocky Sunagakure shinobi go up in smoke.

The grenades traveled about two feet then stopped, plopping on the ground next to him. The hooked chain of a shoge had sunken into the fabric of the belt while he’d been spinning it. When he released, the chain simply prevented his projectiles from going anywhere, like trying to throw a leashed dog.

Where had the shoge come from? That was a mystery Souseki would take to the grave.

Certain crispy SUNA soldiers knew better, though.

Motonubu didn’t get to watch Souseki explode, since he was far too busy running in the opposite direction like a maniac. Pulling that trick on the projectile-throwing foe required some creative use of the False Strike genjutsu technique, a SUNA bunshin, and a piece of string, an elaborate plan that a simple explanation couldn't do justice. All that mattered was that it was far easier to move closer to the Furious Five member when pretending to be dead.

Muscle, of course, didn’t look any worse of the wear. What a trooper.

The sun began to finally pierce the depths of the quarry and yellow light crept down from the top of the giant hole. Motonubu, exhausted from nearly an entire day spent fighting, plopped down on his butt behind the cover of a large, malformed rock. There might still be more enemies, after all! He tapped his communication unit and spoke in raspy, winded breaths.

“Report.”

The sound of the explosion, the sight of the man blowing himself up, and the sound of Motonubu over the comm unit allowed Sosu to finally breathe easy. Sosu knew that he had finally done well when his blade was still dripping in red carnage. He had wounded his archenemy and had defeated another one of the Furious Five. There was now only Furious Three, and there was no doubt that they were going to heard word of this. Sosu was ready to kill the rest of the people left in the missing shinobi group and there was a fire that was now burning in the heart of Sosu, one fierier then the flame tower that was currently blistering in the summer desert sun.

”Yea, Motonubu, I am glad that you are still alive. I wounded Kouken pretty bad and there seems to be a good chance that he might still be close by. However, I am beat and we need to get out of this area. We can’t afford to be attacked by the rest of this motley crew that might show up. Where are you exactly? I will come to you. I am still pretty beat up but I can walk. From what I saw, you got a little burned.” Sosu stated as a joke to lighten up the mood.

It would seem that the whole situation would call for such but now the reality struck that Sosu might be in trouble with some other people; the Dog House was going to give him real hell to pay. It was lucky for Sosu that he killed the man that had harmed Daiki and that might win him back some brownie parts. Sosu looked into the inferno as he waited for Motonubu’s response. Hopefully, just maybe, his partner would commend him for killing the man.

A few hand seals later Motonubu retreated into the comforting folds of his invisibility illusion. For a group called the ‘Furious Five’, they sure liked to attack one at a time rather than as a team. For that reason alone he played it safe. Having the Furious Leftovers show up would really ruin his day.

Already he pieced together the story they would tell Sunagakure. Attacked on the way home, they chased the foes to this quarry and...blah blah blah. Details details. You usually didn’t get paid for doing jobs nobody asked you too. And they’d kind of let the escaped prisoner escape, again. This whole ‘job’ would earn only off-the-record points if even that.

Good enough for him. He could use a bit of reputation boost after some of his less well accomplished missions.

“Find that other man’s head (or what is left of it) and pray there is a reward for its return.”
Leaving the dirty work to Muscle, as usual. Motonubu looked around for a while longer and saw nobody crawl out of the earth to attack Len Sosu. His shoulders relaxed into a shrug.

“Run back to the prison, let them know what transpired. We will require reinforcements to investigate the quarry for more clues.”
A pause. “Perhaps do not tell them about Kouken, though. Letting him escape twice would not look terribly good for either of us, I think.”

What Sunagakure didn’t know couldn’t hurt them.
