Default Sanada Clan

Clan Name : Sanada

Clan Symbol:

Clan Location : Hidden Leaf Village/Fire Country

Clan History :

The Sanada clan has always been shrouded in a thick mystery ever since it was first noticed. At first, this family seemed to be another one of those anonymous clans without prestige or class, given that the leaders always made sure the clan members kept a low profile, never showing off their skills, especially to conceal the secret of their power: a bloodline limit known as the Celestial Body – a divine corporeal envelope superior and different from any other ordinary one. Their unorthodox abilities would also earn them a reputation of monsters to those who actually learnt about them; for their differences, they would be avoided and hated like outcasts.

It was no wonder when the clan leaders decided to establish their private estate in a relatively small village in the north of the Fire Country, away from the main populated areas. At the same time, the policy about keeping the bloodline secret was enforced even more strictly. For several years, it appeared like the clan would be able to live normally… But…

At the time, the Clan leader was Sanada Seijin, one of the finest men the family had seen, whether it came to combat or social skills. In his close entourage, one would always find his beloved wife and his sister. The latter claimed to be a seer blessed with the power to predict the future. Everyone discarded her as a lunatic, especially since she had started to act differently following the death of her father. Seijin didn’t really know what to think of his sisters alleged powers exactly. He didn’t take her that seriously but he still took care of her because of their blood bond. Then one day…

Seijin was busy painting under a tree in the backyard, when his sister stormed towards him, her breath erratic and her eyes wide open, terror in them. “What’s wrong, sister? It looks like you’ve seen a god of death…” The woman picked herself up slowly and when she gathered her composure, she spoke in a low voice. “Worse than that, it is… I saw the future of this family…” Grabbing Seijin’s palm, she examined it lengthily before continuing her gloomy prophecy.

Two sons… Twins, your wife will give you…
Of them, only one to your teachings will stay true…
The other, cursed by the gods, is destined to cause our clan’s downfall…
Will you be ready to kill your own son for the greater good of all?

Seijin was disturbed by this news, even more since his wife had just announced him the good news: She was expecting a baby. He pushed his sister aside and ignored her. In the long run, he got angry and annoyed by her repeated pleads to heed her advice. So much that he banished her from the estate. A few months later, Seijin’s wife indeed gave birth to twins. It was then that the clan leader remembered the prophecy of his sister… Even more so because one of the boys, unlike any other Sanada, was born with dark skin and grey hair. Cursed by the gods? But Seijin thought it was just him being paranoid, once again. He named them Masayuki and Masakage.

Years passed and as both boys grew up, it was obvious that although they were twins, they were different like night and day. Masayuki always heeded the teachings of his father, developing a calm and modest personality in the process. On the other hand, maybe it was because he was a prodigy, Masakage was full of himself, cynical to the core and conceited about his power. Yes, he learnt to master his bloodline at a very early age, several time faster than his brother and this made him realise how superior he was to most people. Which was why he never understood the reason why his clan, as powerful as it was, was forced to stay hidden. So, the young genius started to set his plan in motion. Secretly, for several years, he gathered as many people as he could, those he knew shared the same ideals as him.

Then one day, he openly made known his intentions to his father and brother, just as the whole family was having dinner: He planned on taking over a whole province and establishing his own empire there, waging war against anyone who saw the Sanada as a threat. In his own words, he was tired of living this life of ‘anonymousness’ and ‘constant hiding’. It was high time to show the power of his clan to the world, he said. Seijin and Masayuki were bewildered, and tried to reason him, although they knew it was not even worth trying. He had already made up his mind anyway, and he had chosen that moment to announce it simply because it was all according to his course of action. As the argument escalated, cries were heard from outside. Masakage had ordered his followers to strike down those who hadn’t joined his cause; that included many of his own family, his own blood. But the man’s folly kne w no limit… It didn’t take long for Seijin to understand what was happening in his own estate.

‘So, you’re betraying your own blood, son?’

“No, father… You are the betrayer. You kept enduring this miserable life and imposed it our clansmen, just because you’re a coward. I’m simply taking over your role as leader of this family, to lead our people to the destiny they deserve. One of glory and power… You and Masayuki have always been weak, it’s about time the Sanada were led by someone with guts. Farewell…”

He plunged his arm into the chest of his father, his claw like shape shifted phalanges piercing through the flesh of Seijin and reaching for the heart. Not even a Sanada would sustain that kind of attack… And within his vengeful hand, he literally crushed the heart of his father with his powerful grip. ‘I… I shouldn’t have ignored the warning of the gods…’ Masakage then turned towards his brother, his hand still bloodied from the patricide and that ever cynical smile on his face “You do know it’s your turn now, brother. Do not disappoint me… At least, give me a fight… Even if you’ve never had the third of my talent.” He sure seemed to be deriving a lot of pleasure from this… There was not a single sign of remorse on his face, even after the murder of Seijin… Masayuki knew he couldn’t expect any mercy from that man. To say the fight which ensued was epic would be a lie, so much the superiority of Masakage was flagrant. It might actually have been that which saved Masayuki’s life. His brother was so full of himself and convinced of the weakness of Masayuki that he didn’t finish him off. Instead, Masakage left his twin for dead, a wide gash across the chest and left to assemble his lieutenants. They set fire to the estate before leaving.

Masayuki miraculously survived, thanks to his bloodline’s healing abilities, although the wound was such that the scar would stay forever. Another group of clansmen loyal to Seijin had also managed to escape the massacre, and it was them who rescued the wounded Sanada clan heir from the fire. Together, they later settled in a smaller village to carry on with their life, making sure Masakage would never know about them.

But they wouldn’t have to worry for a while. The renegade son, along with his acolytes, travelled across the lands, burning and pillaging villages and towns to assemble wealth. People tried everything to stop the ‘demons’ (A name given to them due to their inhuman appearance), going as far as hiring shinobis to protect them, but nothing could stop this miniature army led by the powerful Masakage. But one day, against all odds, the hot headed Sanada decided to settle down in the Hidden Sound Village, claiming that they would only benefit from such cooperation. Meanwhile, in the Leaf Village, several questions were starting to be raised concerning the deaths of hired shinobis sent to help out villages from attacks. Some of the casualties had been good ninjas and it was strange that they died to regular bandits. Investigations were made and the information gathered enabled the Leaf Shinobis to trace back towards Masakage, who was now in Sound… and Masayuki, who was still hiding in a village in the Fire Country.

Squads were sent to the village in order to retrieve the Sanada. Surprisingly, he turned himself in without fighting back and when questioned in the Leaf Village, he told everything about the circumstances and even briefly explained their clan’s ability. The Hokage was quite interested in this case and he personally followed it throughout its course. Like many, he didn’t trust the Sanada refugees entirely but he realised the potential of having such allies. Out of the blue, he offered to grant asylum to Masayuki and his clan, in exchange of his pledge to help the Leaf as they could. Reluctantly, Masayuki agreed, knowing he would be once again unable to defend his clan members should his brother come to know that he and some others survived.

When the news of the fall of the Sound reached Masayuki, who by now knew that his brother was allied to them, he still didn’t feel safe for some reason. No corpse corresponding to the description of Masakage was retrieved, and knowing the resourcefulness of his brother, the Leaf Sanada clan leader suspected that the betrayer was still alive. Yet, until this day, there have been no sightings of the ominous Sanada demon leader. Something which clearly didn’t resemble him… but who knows, people change.

Clan Details:

General physical appearance:

Due to their bloodline, the Sanada possess a quasi perfect physique and refined looks. Even without exercising, it’s simply impossible for them to gain excess weight, their metabolism allowing the extra fat to be automatically destroyed and converted to chakra reserves. Particular physical traits which appear in all Sanadas (Masakage is the only exception) are fair skin, raven hair and above average height.

Clan Clothing :

Although there is no definite dress code, Sanadas usually wear dark clothes, long cloaks and hoods, an attire which somewhat fits their discreet nature.

Famous and Important Clan Members:

Sanada Masayuki

Current official clan leader of the Sanada clan, Masayuki does a relatively great job at keeping his family united and supports everyone in whatever way he can. However, those who know him well are aware of his ever-present inferiority complex, one which he developed since his early childhood where his twin brother Masakage outclassed him in everything he did. The defeat to his brother on the tragic night of the betrayal didn’t help make him feel better, especially since he should have been the first one to come to the rescue of clansmen who needed his help. His lack of confidence in himself probably increased some more when he was unable to prevent the kidnapping of his newborn first son.

Despite all this, he’s somewhat still trusted by those who willingly decided to follow him instead of Masakage, back then.

Sanada Masakage

Without a doubt the most talented Sanada ever, Masakage unfortunately also had to be the most arrogant, cynical and destruction-bent one. Having mastered most, if not all, of the Sanada abilities at the mere age of 14, he always despised the ‘cowardly’ attitude of his father and brother. It was prophesized he would cause the fall of the Sanada House but, by allowing him to live past birth, his father Seijin ensured this vision of doom would realize itself. Masakage orchestrated the massacre of his own clan (those who didn’t want to follow him in his quest) and murdered his father with his own hands. He failed to kill his brother due to his excess of confidence, preferring not to finish him while the latter was critically wounded. Allied to the Sound nation for a moment, he mysteriously disappeared as the country and village collapsed. Whether he is dead or not is still uncertain, but those who know his resourcefulness persist in saying that he is simply feigning…

If that is indeed true, for how long will he remain hidden and anonymous?

Current Situation:

Although they’ve been granted asylum by the Leaf Village, the Sanada still don’t feel at home there, probably because their clan has always been viewed differently by almost everyone in the past. Despite the friendly attitude most people demonstrate towards them in the hidden village, they all know too well that it could just be a façade. Masayuki, in his teachings, always recommended staying alert... “Not everyone likes having us around, you never know who it could be. So do not trust anyone blindly. That said, it’d be stupid not to show our good faith, so do not do anything which might compromise our pact with the Leaf.”

As cool as this sounds uhm... Leaf has no open Clan spots. Yes on the Clan Openings it says "2 Bloodline Openings", but unless there has been a change, it's been said those slots are basically on permamant reserve for the Hyuuga and Uchiha.

Unless there has been a change.

Well, someone had to ask, so here's a good chance to say it. Kaito himself told me to try out for the Leaf spot. This holds true, unless either him or me were drunk. Or both.

Edit: In any case, the village they live in isn't exactly a problem on my side.

Speaking of which, with those Hyuuga tryouts wonder why he didn't add in Hyuuga to the Info...
Anyway, if Leaf is full you still have:
Stone, Sand, Cloud, and Rain

Leaf isn't full. Uchiha are never making an appearance. They are more dead than my grandmother. Half Approved, as good as ever. Until Kaito says otherwise.

Personally I'll admit I have a slight but in the the end probably insignificant, problem with the bloodline itself.

But the clan? Wonderfully told story, loved reading it. It flows well, with just the right touches.

Officially the only clan I would ever consider applying for outside the Boukyaku.

Half'd, cheers.
