Who would win, this is the first of a few greek mythology threads I will be doing.

Personally i think the Myrmidons. They were pretty good warriors and i would say equal to the spartans in almost every manner of skill.

I am speaking of real spartans not the supermen seen in 300. Not the couple thousand of myrmidons seen in Troy either. Historical characters. Get your info at the wikipedia and then give me your vote and opinion.

This is allmost the same thing as your last thread, and it FAILED x 10. Why would you create a new one? Nobody (actually interested in the topic) posted on the other one, and if someone posts on this one, I'd be thoroughly surprised.

Debate threads are flamefests, when the people in them are fools. Ideally, debate threads are simply flamefests cloaked in logic.

In that vein, I am first going to laugh maniacally at:

Even if the whole conception of obtaining more than passing information from Wikipedia wasn't ridiculous, the inclusion of attached article is reminiscent of the best usages of language by everyone's favorite comic president, George Bush (re: "...use the Google;" "...the internets...").


As for the actual question, it's ridiculous -- no one knows enough about either man's true abilities to make a reasonable historical comparison. Thus, I shall override the OP's "we're not talking about superpowered Spartans" comment and say that, in a fight between mythic Achilles and 300's Leonidas, Leonidas would kick the everloving shit out of Achilles.

Even just going by personality precedent, Achilles was a whiny little brat who hid in his tent and got his best friend killed because of it, while Leonidas was an ass-kicking Spartan warrior who also had an iron grasp on actual wartime tactics... compared to Achilles, who was just a big strong bastard.

Leonidas = win.

Heh, forget the myrmidons, Achilles solos the entire 300, probably with one arm tied behind his back.

During one part of the Iliad Zeus, looking upon Achilles all consuming rage, sent the gods down to restrain him, lest he brought Troy to it's knees before its time.

This serves to show two points. One, the King of gods decided that only gods were capable of restraining an enraged Achilles, who despite his strength was merely a human/sea nymph hybrid. Secondly, Zeus directly interfered because he feared that Troy would fall to Achilles rage before it's time was up, showing that even the king of gods feared that in his rage, mighty Achilles would have the power to tear apart the very tapestry of fate itself.

And added to his near indestructible body(bar his heel of course), he wears and caries upon his being armor and shield forged by Hephaestus himself. No weapons held by the Spartans could ever hope to hurt him.

So basically, rapestomp by Achilles.

Based on what I know about both sets of soldiers, if we involved Achilles, then the myrmidons would win. If we took him out, the spartans would win.

Why, simple: Achilles could win against any of them because he is damn near invincible. However, if he was out of the picture, then the soldiers of Achilles would lose to the warriors of Leonidas, if we're talking an equal match (flat ground, same numbers, etc.)

Though, if I had to choose one, I'd say the Spartans, not because they are in the famed movie, but because they are overall better trained, better knowledgable on war, and much more devoted.

Are you talking Leonidas' 300 spartans, or the entire army of Sparta under Leonidas? Because there's a huge size difference.
