Default Enari - Rain Bloodline

Enari – Bloodhounds of Rain

Clan History:

No one remembered exactly when the ability came about. Ever since memory could serve, a strange problem had riddled their family. No doctor could declare a cause for this unknown ailment. It was a bizarre thing, not a sickness or disease and definitely not detrimental in any way. It was just that, occasionally, someone in the family could feel things that were not there. The touch of gravel on a cool summer’s wind, a cold scrape of metal shrapnel midst a family dinner, a clinging fog beneath a scorching sky. It was never painful, whatever the sensation might be, though at times a distraction between the physical realm and imagination. They called it Reisouhou, “Ghost Touch” and learned to live with this paradox of a curse.

Time marched forward and centuries pass by. Famines came and floods dried, battles erupted and rulers upheaved. The lives of ordinary people waxed and waned but ultimately stayed constant. They toiled their farms and sold their wares and for most part remained the same as ever. It wasn’t until a little over a century ago that a new horizon dawned. He was Enari Murata, a child whose distant aunt had the Reisouhou. He was free from the problem and so was his close family. He was the first person within his family tree who wanted to be a shinobi.

But more importantly, this was the first time anyone in the family had learned of something called “chakra”.

The actual records surroundings his research was hazy. It initially began as a mere hobby, an off-hand interest into seeing whether chakra could help to reveal the reason for his relative’s dilemma. What he discovered was far from trivial.

It seemed that a genetic defect was the answer. A hereditary mutation, it altered the way chakra left the user’s body. While other’s chakra leak out from the body and evaporate into the air, theirs remained clinging to the skin before disintegrating. In some ways one could also consider the chakra as a second skin sitting above that of the subject’s body. As they walk through the chakra trail left by others, their chakra skin brushes against the trail, thus allowing the subject to “feel” the “texture” of one’s chakra. Those more attuned to their own chakra would then feel the textures as they come in contact, thus resulting in Reisouhou.

Thus the revelation; rather than being a curse, it was a bloodline. Murata, now in his early twenties, rushed off to tell his relatives of his discovery and its cause. They listened, thanked him for his hard work and continued on their daily lives. It didn’t matter what the cause or is effects were; their lives would continue as normal. Undeterred by his family’s disinterest, Murata shrugged and continued his solitary analysis.

But even the best of enthusiasm could not always bear fruition. Though he had a sharp mind and passion, the man was missing a vital component that would grant the breakthrough to his research. He didn’t possess the bloodline. There was a limit to how far observation could take him, but without the ability to experiment and record via experience, it proved futile. Eventually his work stalled. No further discoveries were made. Upon his death, his research was given to Amegakure’s library and stowed away for safekeeping. When he died, the interest in Reisouhou died with him, slipping silently from the memories of those who heard of it.

Once again the bloodline sank back into obscurity. There it would rest forgotten for a near century before its rebirth.

He was Amari Ichiru, a shinobi of notable intelligence and good reputation. Though he and Murata were not related unless one scrolled up twenty odd generations or so, this one shared the same curiosity towards the mysterious ailment as his predecessor. But unlike Murata, he possessed the missing gear to the process. For he was a shinobi who inherited Reisouhou. Those of his generation recalled almost nothing of the study into the innate trait, so the man turned to the village’s archives. There, by pure chance he discovered an old dusty folder titled “Enari Project – Reisouhou Analysis.”

And from there came the true birth of the bloodline. While Murata had found and established the rudimentary qualities, it was Ichiru who grasped these foundations and put them to use. He found that Reisouhou could distinguish between the chakra used in certain jutsu as it could between different people. Just as each person’s chakra has a unique feel, so too did that of a jutsu. It didn’t take long for him to realize the distinctive sensations were born from the exclusive series of handseals required for each technique. Like a lump of clay, pure chakra requires a specific set of instructions for it to be molded into a technique. Element, shape, quantity, function, movement, strength, consistency; all were but some of the commands the man discovered as he experimented with different jutsu.

And, just like that, Ichiru stepped into the realm of this new language, the language of handseals.

That was near three centuries past. Since then several incidents had transpired. The first was the official recognization of the bloodline in Rain Country. Ichiru had named his newly founded clan Enari in honor of the first man who realized its existence. The years that followed saw him commit himself to the search of fellow members. This was a hard task; having remained unnoticed for so long, the bloodline had diverted in random directions for countless generations. Those who held the ability were just as likely to be one’s neighbore as a Daiyou of Rain.

Even more problematic was the attribute of the bloodline itself. Unlike most hereditary abilities, this one had the trait of spontaneously appearing through a lineage. It may turn up in one of five siblings then disappear for four or five generations or relentlessly latch onto everyone in the family, though the former was more likely. There was no pattern in its erratic movements, no assurance whether a babe born to possessed parents would inherit or not. Upon his death, Ichiru had only found five others of the bloodline and only two who were shinobi. Considering the perilous nature of a shinobi’s life, it seemed more likely Death would take the two before they found more relatives.

So, once again the Enari tethered on the brink of departure.

Surprisingly enough, it was one of the three civilians who took charge. Niyuki was a merchant, a weapons dealer to be exact. Not only was it a lucrative business, but it saw the woman with many shinobi acquaintances. The encounter with Ichiru had triggered her interest in her “curse”. She knew enough of shinobi arts to understand the significance of the bloodline and upon the founder’s death, saw to it his legacy to be continued. She persuaded her husband, a teacher to first year Academy students, to ask his classes a single question.

“What does chakra feel like?”

The normal reply would be something along the lines of force inside of one’s body. A child with Reisouhou, however, would answer differently. It was three years before the question yielded a result, but it was the result she had hoped for. A young girl who had forever been plagued by the spectral touch where-ever people congressed and learned to embrace solitude to rid of the invisible sensations. Niyuki introduced her to her shinobi clansmen who taught her the truth of her “curse”. From there, Niyuki made it a mission to ask every Academy teacher, trainer, sensei and examiner she knew to ask their charges with that simple question. Those found were introduced to other clansmen and their details immediately recorded on list the clan had come to call the “Heritage Book”. In it detailed a clansman’s immediate family and as they aged, their children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and so on. Upon their demise, the rest of Enari members may keep an eye on their descendents for the reappearance of the bloodline.

Then, some fifty years ago, came the evacuation. While it was a deep shock for everyone, it served particular trouble for the Enari. The clan always had civilians outnumbering shinobi at a ratio of four to one. Some lived in Amegakure, but most were not. The sudden “disappearance” of the village witnessed the third time the Enari almost perished. Relationships severed, the Heritage Book rendered obsolete, once again they faced the stark possibility of death. It was only due to the efforts of scouts and traders, the rare few who were privileged constant access to the outside world that few strings of contact remained intact. Then a miracle; Amegakure announced its presence to the world. Once again the pages of Heritage Book were filled, and though many pages remained empty, those of the clan hoped to see to those lost names one day reside in their rightful place.

Clan Information:

Given the unique nature of its creation, the Enari’s structure is more akin to an organization than any conventional clan or bloodline. It is extremely rare for clansmen to know each other prior to entry of the Heritage Book, rarer still they be relatives of immediate or extended family. For most, they are strangers bound together by the bloodline, nothing more. They abide to no oath, no ritual, no law and no allegiance. All that’s asked is for each member to acknowledge his fellow clansmen in their daily lives and always seek out the possibility of a new member. Other than that, each live their days as any other man.

Since the birth of the clan, the shinobi fraction of Enari had established themselves as accomplished sentries, trackers, researchers and teachers. Enari tutors, especially for ninjutsu or genjutsu practitioners, are highly sought after. With their ability to analyse jutsu creation, they are able to isolate any faults in the process at a single touch and instruct their pupils accordingly. The same holds for research and development of new techniques. Not only are they able to read the various commands to the technique, but more importantly detect any unstable or volatile section in the handseals and ensure its safety before actual usage.

But it is their most basic skill, the detection of residue chakra trails that defined the bloodline. Free from the boundaries of physical evidence and granted a slight leeway from the advance of Time, an Enari is called when all normal methods of tracking are exhausted. Their ability to pick up the trail from smallest of evidence, startling insight into the target’s actions and unerring pursuit had earned the bloodline the nickname “Bloodhounds”.

Since the bloodline possesses no distinguishing traits, members must bear the clan symbol so to be recognized. The symbol, akin to an inverted glyph for Saturn, can be displayed in the form of a piece of jewellery, embroidery or physical marking, but must be visible.

Clan Housing:

The scattered nature of the Enari means there is no clan grounds or meeting place. Each clansman lives with their own family as per normal. However, the Enari is one of the few residents who were granted constant access to above ground during Amegakure’s hiding. At the entrance of each Sector is the guardpost between Amegakure and the rest of the world. There is many of Enari member’s second home. Any entrance, any time at least one Enari is posted to keep vigil not only on those departing and returning, but also any strangers who happen to roam too close for comfort.

Clan Hierarchy:

There is no true hierarchy among the members save for one; a person with the title of Warden charged with the safekeeping and update of Heritage Book. He or she oversees revision of the records with deaths, birth and new members. He also make certain to pair a new clansman to one well versed with Reisouhou for training and learning. In the case of trouble, he is the first point of contact and is responsible for spreading the news among the clan.

Though not by tradition, it has been general consensus that the Warden be a civilian rather than shinobi. The reason behind this is one of practicality than creed. It is common knowledge that the average lifespan of a shinobi is far shorter than a normal resident. That and they may leave the village for extended periods of time on missions. Both of these proves unsuited to the duty of a Warden. Unlike most other clans, detailed knowledge of clan’s skills is not a requirement. So long as they possess Reisouhou and understand the basic concept behind the bloodline, anyone is suitable for the position.

The current Warden Arashi Koshio, a man of fourty-eight, has held the position for near two decades. His occupation being an accountant, many consider it befitting that he be the one to update and revise the archives, much to the chagrin of Koshio who considers it a sublime insult for calling him a bookworm.

Bump for revised version. Make several edits for both Bloodline and Ninjutsu list. Starting all the approvals and such from scratch.

Juu's still adament to be GM of this bloodline if approved, so no problems there.

Stick with only the first option for the archetype special and scratch the other stuff - they seem to combo archetype in nature, and taking this clan archetype has no "downside" unlike taking combos where you HAVE to take those two archetypes in order to get that special, when you might not like the stat spread for the two component archetypes.

I'll also approve this.

Though I'll say, you are probably better versed in the history of Rain, but dang the history here seems to reach back a far way. Every event seems to have 50-100 years between it, and there are at least 3 shifts of time no? oh well.
