Default Date Tomoya - KISEO Detective

Name: Date Tomoya
Age: 18
Sex: Male
Height: 5'11"

Country/Village: Kusa no Kuni / Kusagakure
Rank: Advanced Chuunin
Division: Shinku Seijun KISEO Detective

Physical Description: Tomoya possesses a certain masculine, handsome look. Though not impressively tall, he stands with a rigid back that gives him an illusion of further height. Tomoya's body is well-built, but young and still in development. His hands have thin fingers, free of the callouses or wear common to shinobi. Tomoya's facial features are straight and angular, with a wide nose and a broad jawline. His teeth are set perfectly and shined to a brilliant white, as though back lit by fluorescent bulbs. Black hair sits atop his head, cut short and professional with a little natural body. Tomoya has dark, fuzzy eyebrows that are just as heavily groomed as the rest of his hair. Tomoya's eyes are gray, but intense in their gaze and focus.

Clothing: Tomoya dresses professionally, a habit carried over from time with the Shinku Seijun. When on missions and KISEO business, Tomoya typically wears a black coat like that of a school uniform, pressed and ironed to the brink of death. He pairs the suit with a pair of silver cufflinks and polished leather loafers. Usually, Tomoya picks white button-ups to wear beneath the suit coat and lets variety and color enter the ensemble only when he picks a tie to cinch up around his neck. Tomoya wears a bracelet of dark wooden beads like a monk's rosary, which is often hidden under his sleeves.

Personality: Tomoya is a social butterfly. He is the extreme extrovert, inserting himself into conversations, shaking hands with strangers, and laughing the loudest. Tomoya always seems to be ready for action, possessing some internal battery of endless energy. Typically, he is friendly and open, more light-hearted than other shinobi tend to be. However, Tomoya is at home on any range of the emotional spectrum and slides along the scale quickly. Whatever he feels, he does so with impressive strength, a flame that burns without flickering. Tomoya can harness this intensity as a weapon and is an amazing actor when he has the mind to be. But, while Tomoya is smart, he is not wise, and while he can be clever, he is not cunning; in many ways, Tomoya lacks the qualities expected of experienced shinobi, for better or worse.

Biography:Don't worry, I'm not gonna lie to you guys. Not this time, I promise.

Date Tomoya was born as someone else entirely, just a dark-haired farmer's boy named Tsutomu. He was one of many such children, all with dirty faces and hands from working the land, but strong of body and spirit. So, when the men came riding down from the mountains on their horses, all hooves a-thundering and foaming at the mouth in their wildness, his brothers and sisters were brave. A girl with a round face and hair pulled back took the young Tsutomu in her arms and hid him in the cellar, behind a panel in the wall.

He sat in the dark and listened to the din of the raid overhead. Heat filtered down into the cellar as the beams of the old family house groaned and broke under the flames. When the dark men stepped down to the cellar with their stained swords, Tsutomu pressed himself against the walls at though he might just fade through them. They didn't see him there behind the secret panel, but he heard them rummage through bottles and jars and barrels, casting the livelihood of his family aside as easily as they had run them through with steel. Tsutomu clasped his hands over his mouth, fingers tight over his lips, and tried to shut up his fury and honor.

Tsutomu emerged from the cellar the next morning, covered in soot except for the tear-borne lines down his face. The house still smoldered, dark smoke rising in a pillar. His brothers and sisters lay sprawled over the ground, some of them burnt, some of them in pieces. The farm fields around the house had been lit ablaze, too, nothing more than flat gray wastes. Kusagakure's shinobi had arrived, it seemed, to deal with the aftermath of the raid, which had hit all the farmers in the area. A young kunoichi, a recent graduate from the Academy, took Tsutomu by the hand and led him into the nearest town, amazed to see that someone had survived.

But, in truth, Tsutomu was dead.

Now, there was only the boy, a body that moved without a heart or a soul. He was taken into an orphanage, where he was joined by abandoned children and other so-called survivors of tragedy. The boy languished there for years that passed him like minutes. He went to the little school in town to learn his letters and numbers, which he picked up instantly. A sharp mind lay behind the fog, but though they tried, no one could find the way through the smoke to pull the boy back from the land of the dead.

Then, Man came. He walked into the orphanage with his head held high and he sat the boy down once he'd chased everyone else out of the room. Man did not offer sympathies or assurances, he made no effort to convince the boy that he understood. What he did, however, was offer possibilities. Man asked the boy what he would do for Justice and the boy replied Everything. Even for the justice of others, for the justice of strangers, the boy swore he would stop at nothing, if given the chance. Man left the orphanage and disappeared.

You expect us to believe that? How would he even know this ki- how would he even know about you?

Man had many eyes and ears. Hearts loyal to the Cause are often tempered by tragedy. Man knew that, so he watched for us, even outside Kusagakure.

The boy was taken in by a woman he'd never seen before, a young lady who took him far from that town. This woman, Date Rikko told him that she worked for Man and that she had come to care for the boy in his stead. There was much to do, she said, but if he chose to walk the road of the Cause, then she would give him the tools he needed. So began the boy's second life as Date Tomoya.

By day, Tomoya was a normal child. Rikko had considerable means and Tomoya received an elite education. He was encouraged to interact with the other students and, through the years, Tomoya emerged. Though they were not blood, Rikko often assured him that they were indeed a family, and the first time he came home from school with a smile, she pressed him close and plucked teardrops from her cheeks like stars. Tomoya's soul was flush with new life and the stagnation that once consumed him fell away.

But by night, Tomoya was a neophyte to the cause. Rikko brought him to a room in the estate and sat there with him with scrolls and books. She taught him about chakra, about ninjutsu and genjutsu. Tomoya was sent into the moonlit garden to practice forms and kata. Rikko told him stories of the Cause and of Kusagakure, though she often made it a point to say that Tomoya was not a shinobi of Grass Village. He was destined to be an agent, but he served an even greater purpose.

At age thirteen, he met Man for the second time. Man came to Rikko's home with a collection of associates in suits. He sat at a low table and set Tomoya down next to him. They discussed Tomoya's studies, both traditional and in chakra. Man asked if he still felt the call to justice within him and Tomoya said, simply, yes. On that day, Tomoya was officially inducted into the Shinku Seijun and given his first assignment. Though the mission was nothing amazing, Tomoya found it sustaining, feeding some part of himself which had always been hungry.

Maybe you guys know the rest.

Tomoya raised his shoulder and ground it against his bloodied nose. His hands were spread apart in front of him, each one cuffed to a different corner on the table. A collection of Kiseo detectives stood in a cresecent on the other side of the tables, folders and pens in hand. There was a guard at the door drumming his fingers over the hilt of a blade hanging at his side. Tomoya snorted a bit and tasted the iron of blood in the back of his throat.

We've known for awhile that the Shinku Seijun had some unidentified agents. And we know that you were found holed up in one of their safe houses.” The lead detective through a folder down on the table. It lay open to a collection of case reports, newspaper clippings, and sketches of Tomoya's face. He splayed his fingers over the pages. “You're sloppy. We have witnesses and reports from all over the country. Break a thief's fingers in one town, string up an enforcer in the next. All while scouting out new targets for Man and his cronies.

It was all you. Some phantom agent, a villageless shinobi doling out justice like a damn vigilante.

Not really a shinobi, but the rest sounds right. And yes, I guess that's a confession.

Tomoya was in chains, on the way to the sealing room, when the Kusakage finally graced him with a visit. The guards stood at attention, breaking it only to give Tomoya a rough shove so that his legs buckled beneath him and he knelt before the Kusakage. Tomoya dipped his head; he had lost the path of the Cause. His comrades and his king, Man, had been captured, killed, or vanished. Judgment loomed over him behind the eye of the Kusakage. Even if Tomoya had looked up at him, Fukumen was unreadable.

One chance.

Tomoya tilted his head by degrees.

Man was careful with you. For all the missions, he never once fielded you against the village. He tried to keep you safe.” Fukumen paused and Tomoya finally stared up at him. Confusion spread over the boy's face like a plague. “No more secret meetings or clandestine plans. You work for Kusagakure and you do what I tell you to. And if I ever think you've done otherwise, you're dead. Understand?

Tomoya's voice trembled as badly as his lip.

Yes, sir.

against the walls at though he might just spirit through it.

but his served an even greater purpose.
This could probably stay as 'his', but you may have meant 'he'.

Having written a fair few, this bio reads a lot like a Special Forces character bio, right? This is pretty high on the scale of so unique, and feels a lot like Moko, but with less ridiculous parts. So maybe that's why I'm okay with it all (you know, ignoring that you checked it all out with me beforehand).

What I do feel is missing, is a sense of what things he actually did while he was SS. It feels like a missing chunk in the middle of the bio. Part of this is curiosity about exactly what Chiru's organization was ever supposed to do... I still don't quite understand those suit wearing weirdos. I recognize that an addition like this might upset the flow, so maybe just an additional line of dialogue when the KISEO is saying he was a villageless vigilante. That way I can actually know if this guy was handing out pamphlets, or stopping bank robbers as the masked Tomo-kun.
