Default Universal Summon Contracts

Universal Summon Contracts

While most major summons choose to ally themselves with specific villages, there are those summon families who have chosen not to, for whatever reason. These summon families enjoy a wider pool of contract-holders to choose from, picking from all over the world without worrying about village allegiances. In some respects, making contacts with these summons is easier – village contracts are often gated or guarded by the kage or other village authorities. But, at the same time, an individual looking for a villageless contract has no one to vouch for him and can rely only on himself to impress his chosen house. The universal summon contracts have the following rules:

1. Summon contracts may not be taken at character creation.
2. A character may only have one major summon contract, whether it's with a village or universal house.
3. A character must complete and receive points for five threads before taking a universal summon contract.
4. Contracts are arranged by type, but any shinobi may take any type of contract he meets stat requirements for.
5. Only one summon may be active at a time. A summon will not attack any character that also has a contract with its house.

Eagle (Washi) Contract

Once venerated as the strongest and noblest of the many avian houses, the Eagle Clan has fallen from its former glory. Rather than become tied to a single village, the eagles chose a path of independence, considering themselves above swearing fealty to anyone but themselves. As such, their power and influence has come in cycles as the shinobi world goes through periods of prosperity and calamity - the Eagle Clan has chosen to ride the waves rather than take the mundane stability of a village contract. Without ties to any particular village, the clan instead poaches promising shinobi from all over the world and grooms them into proper contract-holders, seeking to sculpt them into representatives of the royal eagles. The birds value combat skill and level heads and are rumored to have signed contracts with historic generals and heroes. The eagles train extensively with weapons and are masters of ranged combat, preferring to cut down their enemies without bloodying their talons. The eagles take their techniques from Projectile Tree, Yatama no Shikaku, and Global Ninjutsu.

Description: Moriko is a cute little eagle with deep brown feathers and a white breast. Even-tempered, she is eager to serve but knows her own limitations. Moriko works on improving herself, making her excellent training partner for young shinobi. She's affectionate and friendly, making it difficult not to love her in return.

He's about the size of a fully grown short-toed eagle and has brown and white feathers, similar to his sister, with a blank hitai-ate tied around his neck.

All her feathers are white with age and she has a wingspan close to nine feet.

He has a reputation for questioning his summoner's orders and generally being a pain, though backs up all his bluster with skill.

Vulture (Hagewashi) Contract

The House of Vultures is a family business of mercenaries. They keep their secrets close, even from their most trusted contract-holders, and rarely interact with shinobi outside of battle. But, they understand the dangers and horrors of shinobi life better than any other summon out there – after all, vultures exist on war and death, just like shinobi do. Often considered unclean by other summons, the vultures have tried to distance themselves from a reputation as scavengers and thieves, but are still known to steal from the dead they make their living from. Though the House professes to seek out contracts for their own value, the vultures respect the clever, resourceful, and realistic above other candidates. The vultures take their techniques from Global Genjutsu, Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and Madoiken.

At the same time, his bag of tricks is a bit shallow, and he knows it – Hyosuke is no fool.

He keeps a dinged up hitai-te around one ankle.

Sayoko often advises contract-holders to be more like her and to simply take it easy rather than overexert themselves. Not just a slacker, Sayoko conserves her energy and focus for the precise moment when she needs it most, making each attack in combat like a surgical strike.

Kioko sounds a little air-headed, but puts immense effort into what she does, making her a valuable ally.

Of course, among the vultures this makes him uniquely easy to deal with, but the vultures themselves consider Shigeki an embarrassment and chastise summoners who rely on his assistance.

He is secretive, paranoid, and erratic, unpredictable to the point of being a master of deception.

Dog (Inu) Contract

The House of Dogs is a young summon family, relatively speaking. After all, it hasn't been that long since man lured wolves in from the darkness and tamed them into the dogs they are today. It's said that, though dogs taught humans how to hunt, it's humans that taught the House of Dogs to wage war. And, indeed, the dogs have collectively become masters of taijutsu, excelling in all forms of hand to hand and weapon-based combat. It seems every member of the House has his own special trick up his collar and the dogs are proud to be known for their adaptability on the battlefield. The dogs once saw themselves in debt to humans for providing them food and shelter, but since then they've come to view humans more as partners than as providers. As such, the House of Dogs is known for being friendly with shinobi and working closely with them - stories even exist of shinobi without contracts going to the dogs for guidance, training, and assistance. The dogs take their techniques from a variety of different universal lists - each individual summon has links to the lists they draw from.

Description: Seemingly a small dog, Taro is actually somewhat large for a Spitz. His fur is long and white, completely covering his compact body and turning into a puffy mess of a tail. Below his small ears is a ninja headband, though it bears an engraving of a paw print rather than the emblem of any village. Each of his four paws wear miniature gloves, the fingers cut off to let his claws stick through. Taro is young and acts a bit like a puppy - he's eager and always ready to play. Though excited to help other young shinobi, he is inexperienced in true combat, and is known for his nervous whining when out of his depth. His favorite food is hamburger.

Description: Jiro is a Kai Ken, the Tiger Dog. He's mid-sized among the other dog summons with a coarse, brindled coat of reddish-brown and dark fur. His patterning gives an appearance of tiger stripes. Jiro wears a ninja headband loose around his neck like a collar with the same paw print emblem as Taro. Additionally, Jiro has what look to be shin guards strapped to each of his four legs. In truth, these sleeves hide spring-loaded blades that make Jiro's swiping claws all the more dangerous. He's a dog of few words, with a reserved demeanor. While this makes him look somewhat cool, Jiro is actually quite shy and doesn't get into long conversations for fear of tripping over his words. His favorite color is orange.

Description: A black and white terrier, Momo has short, sleek fur and a smaller frame. Her ears hang forward, a bit floppy, and her eyes are dark and full of secrets. She wears a pink peach clip over one ear and has her ninja headband slung diagonally over her chest with a pair of folding fans tucked into it. These fans open to reveal intricate paintings of the ocean, but the fans themselves are reinforced and conceal metal tips suitable for use as weapons. Momo is a bubbly and cheerful dog most of the time, though she secretly has a vindictive and petty side that often comes to the surface. Her favorite season is autumn.

Description: A Tosa, Kiku is a large dog with big, floppy ears and a bit of a wrinkly face. Her coat is a cinnamon brown, though it darkens closer to black around her snout and eyes. Both of her front paws and legs are covered in giant claw contraptions full of wound chain known as tsume. Kiku's headband is in fact a smaller armlet that dangles just above one of her mechanical claws. She is lazy and often sleepy with a relaxed, non-committal attitude towards everything. Kiku is actually rather sharp and intelligent - her laziness stems from boredom as she searches for a real challenge. Her favorite hobby is calligraphy.

Description: Daiki is a husky with a bushy coat and an almost bear-like face. Though not the biggest of the dog summons, he has a barrel chest and impressive frame, which combined with his fur make him look much larger than he really is. His ninja headband is worn over one eye as a patch - the socket beneath is empty and permanently shut. A bundle of javelins sits strapped to his back for Daiki to throw or use in close combat as spears. Daiki is boisterous and loud with a personality befitting a great warrior of his stature. He is a lover of both simple pleasures and the final things, finding a way to revel in any opportunity, but sometimes comes off as air-headed for it. His favorite story is Taketori Monogatari.

Despite her size, though, Chouko is well known for caring a full-sized arbalest into battle, modified to be operated with paws and teeth. She's a bit bizarre, but mostly just goofy and eccentric. Chouko has a weird sense of humor and is a fan of word play in particular. Her favorite day is Thursday.

Description: Kibe, sometimes called the Inu no O or the King of Dogs, is a Shiba Inu, larger than normal, though still on the smaller side for the summons. He's wiry with sharp ears and a tail that curves up to rest on his back. Kibe's fur is fairly short and colored in the traditional tan and white sections of his breed. He wears his headband as a loose belt around his waist, from which hang a number of wakizashi - though as they are sized for him, they come closer to the average ninja's katana. Kibe, as the rightful ruler of the House of Dogs, is a wise and shrewd Shiba, making each decision with careful consideration. Though he at first seems to be serious and straight-laced, he used to be known as a prankster and general goofball before he ascended to the throne. His favorite jutsu is this one.

Slug (Namekuji) Contract

The Slug Family lives hidden away in the ancient Shikkotsu Forest, a dark wilderness few humans have ever ventured into. Naturally peaceful, the slugs have survived as long as they remember by relying on their toughness and their many sisters. Unique among the summon houses, the slugs know the secrets of healing, able to channel their natural regenerative abilities into others, and many shinobi scholars believe that it was the slugs who originally revealed the secrets of medical ninjutsu to their contract-holders. Indeed, the slugs have an unusual number of medics in their contract books, but in truth, the sisters extend contracts to any shinobi who abhors violence and inspires peace. The slugs take their techniques from Global Ninjutsu, Medical Ninjutsu and Precision Fist.

Mae is a curious girl and enjoys puzzles, even if she lacks the digits necessary to solve a lot of them.

Plus, she has a rather voracious appetite and is known to snack and talk simultaneously to save time.

She has dreams of being a legendary slug queen herself, but for now she relies on others for directions and advice.

Nami is precise and calculating, both in and out of battle, and has a very prim and matter-of-fact personality. She's a stickler for rules, but is easily embarrassed by compliments.

She is brash and rude, being quite open about believing the slugs superior to the humans they form contracts with. Despite that, Yasuko always performs to the best of her ability, maintaining her sense of pride.

However, she can be just as protective as a sibling, too, and the other slugs often say that she's mean just to deflect her true feelings.
