Default [Spartoi] Kyuukai Aikiko

Kyuukai Aikiko
Dealer of Hope

Age: 11
Sex: Female
Height: 5'1

Country/Village: Kaze no Kuni, Sunagakure
Rank: Advanced Genin
Division: HARI - Medic Apprentice

"The world can be a dark place, but I know I can bring light into it."

[Physical/Clothing Description]
Aikiko has an almost ethereal look about her, although some would just call it an eerie glow.

A mop of ghost white hair seems to be plopped down on her head; falling straight down in thick, choppy layers with no discernible part clashes starkly against her tanned complexion. A large portion of her bangs cascade down her face, often covering fallow brown eyes. The only attribute that ties her to her father are those eyes, deep set and shaded by long black lashes.

But that is where most would say that her beauty ends though Aikiko's body is at the stage at the early beginnings of puberty.

She has the perfect heart shaped face, but the baby fat that clung to her cheeks has been shed leaving her with sharp features. Her dainty, upturned nose seems misplaced with the high bridge. A small mouth with full but pale lips that sit with naturally downturned corners make it seem like she is in a constant state of pouting and melancholy.

'Delicate' would be the most polite way to describe her frame. She is tall in comparison to most other girls her age, with long, bony limbs that lack muscle tone. Her small shoulders are slightly hunched forward, making her neck appear even longer than it is. And though she is developing feminine curves and features, she's still too skinny to make them work.

She seems to be uncomfortable in her Spartoi uniform, often leaving the first couple of buttons on her high collar unbuttoned and tugging at her sash or cape when nervous. This is only reflected by her choice of clothing when she has her free time, preferring more muted and monotone colors and going with functionality and comfort over pomp and fashion.

Aikiko is the type of girl who will carry the weight of the world on her shoulders but never once complain about it but at the same time, will never share the burden even if help is offered.

Many will be quick to say she has an inferiority complex, which is true. Though she will never expressly say so, she often feels overshadowed by the success and astounding abilities of those she is surrounded by and the lineage of both her parents. However, this also serves to give her motivation and drive. Though she might not be as talented as others, she is determined to forge her own path and make a name for herself in Suna through hard work and a shrewd, creative mind.

It is also clear to most who meet her that Aikiko has abandonment issues, a fact that she will sternly protest even though it is reflected in her relationships with others... or lack there of. Aikiko is a girl who does not easily make friends even when others try their hardest to get her to open up. She is perfectly capable of working in a group but outside of that, she prefers to remain unattached to people. She can't exactly be blamed though, given the tumultuous events recently. If she doesn't have a bond with someone, she doesn't think she can lose them.

However, those who do manage to break the thick shell see a totally different side to her. Optimism tempered by wisdom. Upbeat in the face of adversity. And always willing to help someone no matter what the cost.

Welcome Kiko-chan! Come in; take a seat. First, let's talk about family.

I guess. My mother was a Reibai, Hakuryu Miki, who came through Sunagakure and stayed for... longer than normal. Her skills included divination, sword play, healing and sealing arts. I studied from one of the journals she left behind that detailed rituals and techniques. I hope to one day use them to create something that is my own.

You say was your mother. Past tense. There is also a sorrow in your voice, like she is deceased or something. Why is that?

Because she's gone. I can't even recall what she looked like but everyone says I look just like her. All she left me was that book. She also left some letters for my father to give me whenever I reach special occasions. I'll probably never see her again, never actually hear from her. So it is just easier for me to think of her that way, like she's dead.

I'm sorry. I know that topic is a tough one for you. How is your father doing? Is he still...?

Yes. He hasn't regained all of his movement but he's getting around better now though. I don't have to help him as much. I really don't think he likes me having to help him anyways.

He's lucky to have a daughter like you. I'm sure he'll get better with time. Right now, his pride is hurting more than his body is.

Well, on to a happy topic. How do you think you did on your HARI entrance exam?

... I think I did well enough.

Just well enough? I mean, I don't have the final say but I'd say you did better than just 'well enough.' From day one, you've shown more interest in medical techniques. You have a natural talent in empathy towards others.

Thank you very much Dazai-sama but...

You don't have to always be so formal, Kiko-chan! How many times have I had to ask you to call me Nevin-sensei? But back to the topic at hand. After the jailbreak, you even volunteered to pick up some of the other assistant's slack, didn't you?

Only because many of them were sent to Dedashi though. I volunteered for the extra duties but I probably would have been assigned them anyways to make up for the lack of actual medics in the village.

On the contrary, I don't think the office would have assigned you anything that they didn't feel you were qualified for. We weren't spread that thin and you don't have to be a medic to do the things you do. Everyone at the hospital says the patients are always happy to see you come in. I think the higher ups recognized that and they trusted you enough to let you take on those responsibilities.

... I guess.

{sigh} Kiko-chan, if there was anything I could change about you. It would be that. You're always too hard on yourself. Have more faith in your abilities.

... Yes ma'am.

{another sigh} We'll work on that later. Now it is time to get a little more serious. You don't want to have to take a life but as a shinobi, you may have to.

It is possible though! Hakkenshi-sa.... I mean... Yoshi-sensei showed me that my goals are more than just naive dreams like many people have said. He has made it as a Jounin without ever having to take a life. He is proof that I can do it.

Yes, Yoshi-kun is a very remarkable man indeed but...could you?

I don't... I don't know.

If you had to?

... Yes ...

In The Golden Gauntlet. Why do you think you lost your match?

That's an easy one. I don't really think I stood a chance against Rika. I don't stand a chance against almost any of the other students. My ninjutsu choices thus far have been focused on utility and defense. I only recently started studying taijutsu and even that is more disarming and distance fighting so I'd have to be pretty lucky to win in a close quarters match.

What did you think about some of the other matches?

All of the other bouts were really interesting to watch. I mean, we've all seen each other practice and even sparred together sometimes but never like that. It was kind of fun seeing most everyone give it their all. It was really interesting to watch, even kind of... fun. Still, I always knew it would come down to Sasori and Hiryo. I didn't know who would win, but I knew it would be the two of them.

Do you not think that everyone tried their best?

Well... Eiko was the first to prove that she didn't and I don't think that Kinsha did either. I think he was holding back. Rika too. She might have even been the one up there in the match against Hiryo if it wasn't for...

You and Rika... you two have a shared history, yes?

It was one of the reasons my mother came to Sunagakure. My father told me that she was one of the first people to have any insight into the Suna no Soushoku and Assate even though she wasn't from the area. She tried to warn the Juudaime of what was to come but divining... the images come across as cryptic and there are so many ways a person's fate can go. She urged them to prepare for war and helped in locating Cao Cao and finding a suitable vessel. She also assisted in the ritual...

Ahh... I see. So, do you think Rika blames you for her being a host?

I don't think it. I know it. There has always been this tension between us and I think that is the root cause of it.

... You seemed to keep to yourself in the academy, but you won't be able to do that as a genin.
So let's talk about your relationship with the other students for a bit.

I don't really have relationships with them. I mean, most of us are on decent terms but I don't consider them my friends and I think the feeling is mutual. Associates would be a better term.

Why do you say that?

Well, I mean I did keep to myself a lot; it was easier if I didn't have many distractions. I'm sure I would have no problem in a team, working with any of them but I just... I'm not like them. Let's face it. I'm not a typical shinobi. I'm barely a shinobi, if at all. I'm not strong. I'm not very powerful. I'm not from a clan. I don't have some score to settle. I'm not popular. I don't have the typical mindset. I just don't fit in... maybe I could have before the attack, but... I don't think I have anything in common with them anymore.

That's where you're wrong Aikiko. All of you... you're survivors. Everyone deals with grief in different ways and what happened at the academy... even though it has been awhile ago, so much has been going on still that no one has had time to really heal. It shouldn't be something that divides you but that brings you closer to one another. As for the rest, you're still at the beginning of your journey. You have room to grow. Remember that.

Which of the students would you most like to work with?

If I had a choice, Kinsha I think. He's from the Dustmen, so I'm sure he knows techniques I don't. He'd have knowledge that Suna doesn't or has lost over time. Maybe even something I can use to help...

Anyone else?

Eiko. I think I'd enjoy talking to her about different ninjutsu styles and principles. Plus, we both like reading and she's really creative. I see her writing and drawing all the time, humming too. I think if she'd actually sing, she'd have a pretty voice like...

What about for taijutsu?

Takai... he's a bit more complicated. He's a natural at fighting. I just know that he could be more than he is if he only tried. He's just... lost so much and has so much to live up to. That's got to be hard on a person and take a toll.

{laughter} Are you sure you don't want to switch from medic apprentice to sensei assistant? Ahem... I'm sorry. I don't disagree with you on some of your points, it is just very unusual to see a girl of your age have such insight into people. You might have your father's eyes but you have the sight your mother had.

... No. As much as she wanted to help, she only ended up hurting people. She called herself a tool for revenge. I don't want to be that. I want to be a light.

On that note, let me just say... welcome Kyuukai Aikiko, Dealer of Hope, to the Iron Flower Generation.

... Thank you Nevin-sensei. I will try my best...

Dealer of Hope—Kyuukai Aikiko [Sinn]
To revise / to alter, or adapt to remedy a condition

“I just don’t fit in…maybe I could have before the attack, but…I don’t think I have anything in common with them anymore.”—Kyuukai Aikiko

The hook! THE HOOK! This is, uh, actually a real solid and to the point character. Simple. What worked best with the interview format was the fact that you gave Kiko a hefty amount of dialogue, whereas Nevin was just there doing her job, like it’s suppose to be. There are only a handful of moments that I’d cut back on Nevin’s praise here, primarily—there are very few academy students who are as skilled as you when it comes to medical knowledge and jutsu, moreso you’ve developed an early affinity toward medical knowledge and jutsu, you should have more faith in yourself, Kiko-chan.

You feel me?

I’ve said this a multiple of times at this point on other applications, but Nevin isn’t there to big up or praise your character’s accomplishments or capabilities—we’ll honestly find that out through the actual RP—she is there to conduct an interview in order to evaluate the student, drawing out information the student maybe too scared to voice anywhere else, or even realize, until in the space of the interview. I noted that you took a couple beats from Echizen’s interview, which is fine, I felt like that in itself helped to streamline the questions asked, and gave Kiko the space to, you know

Trim down some of the it is usual to see a girl your age doing such-and-such type language of Nevin and you’re good. Also, about Rika and Kiko. That’s some heavy information she has over Rika. I told Geisha that Nevin shouldn’t be the one to reveal this information to her, and suggested that Rika all ready knows who sealed the beast in her. Although I understand the future dynamic of this confrontation, maybe her knowing should all ready be the tension between the two.

So, the biography clocked in at 1495, and my only other qualm was how other Spartoi members were moreso listed and given an opinion over opposed to having a substantial root/connection/relevance to Kiko’s story.

But there’s only so much you can do in a short amount of time. So, with that being said, and after everything I’ve mentioned is fixed, you can run with my Sand Primary GM Approval.

Kyuukai Aikiko is officially the Dealer of Hope.

Additional Notes:
All right, Sinn hasn’t lost her RP touch
How she uncomfortable in her Spartoi uniform when it’s tailored to her? Girl trippin’. Lol
Inferiority complex and abandonment issues? This character bout to be dope
Crazy, I have never heard of this Taijutsu until now, lol
Oooohhh snap, Medical Nin with a Naginata? Raw.
Kiko, nice. Now I don’t have to write Aikiko all the time.
OKAY! Good start with Nevin, straight to the point.
Oooohhhh snap, Echizen framework, let’s get it
There you go, streamline those questions
Spelled Hiryo’s name wrong

Spartoi Mentions:
Rika**—if Kiko knows this, nah I’ll just touch on this dynamic in detail later, lol
Kinsha—such an ambiguous person, lol

Oh my god! Keeping to the 1500 word limit is hard but I did it, barely.

And just to be honest, the original bio I had written out was close to 3k words and went into a lot more detail about her time in the academy and her attempts to bond with others, the reasons why she couldn't fully commit to them and how after the bombing she separated herself even more so. I plan to slowly go over that in solo threads or threads with others which is the reason for me not taking out the seemingly innocuous part about the letters for special occasions.

Tried to trim down the praise from Nevin and make it more of a pep talk for her, or just have Nevin make some general observations.

As far as the mention of other classmates go, I made a throwback to her personality and flat out stated that she mostly kept to herself and her reasons for it. Or at least the reason she tells herself that she stayed isolated.

For her relationship with Rika, since I haven't been able to talk to Geisha and figure out a where and when for her finding out/knowing... I made it clear that she did know but left the circumstances about it vague.

Tactics: 3
1 - 1 (NS) + 3 + 1 (Adv)
Should be 4. Most of your jutsu also reflect this being 4 so I think it's just a typo.

After some discussion on Skype I don't think you need to pay 5 item points for a naginata. Just pay the 3 for the polearm and you'll be fine.

I'll Half once the stat typo is fixed.
